Previously, the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah only allowed Muslims aged 18 to 50 to perform Umrah, as well as worship at the Grand Mosque and Al-Rawdah Sharif at the Prophet’s Mosque and visit the Prophet’s tomb following the easing of regulations that were enforced during the outbreak of coronavirus. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has begun issuing permits for Umrah pilgrimage and also access to the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah for pilgrims arriving from outside the Kingdom via the Eatmarna and Tawakkalna apps, which are downloaded on pilgrims’ smartphones. Previously, pilgrims coming to perform Umrah from outside Saudi Arabia, had to get permits from the Saudi Umrah agency to attend the pilgrimage sites. Permits can now be acquired without the involvement of these intermediaries. Those who have already installed both applications will need to update again for the service to be available, according to officials. They must, however, register their details on the Khudum site. Only individuals who register in this method are eligible for the permission, which is obtained through two applications.
